The Community Renewal project aims to develop a delegated grant scheme to support community based projects which further the objectives of the WAG Village Renewal Measure, aiming to provide a significant boost to an area’s prosperity by encouraging the development and improvement of village facilities and other support infrastructure, through small scale investment.
Community groups can through local actions such as small scale enhancement schemes make a visual impact on communities e.g. planting schemes, renovation of local historic features and strengthen community pride in the area. The project will support community projects that contribute to improving and enhancing the level of facilities for the local population and the local economy by taking account of community needs and aspirations. This could include:
- Small capital work to enhance localities such as bus stops, amenity areas etc.
- Interpretation and signage projects.
- Small scale projects which enhance the landscape and natural environment.
- Feasibility studies into new facilities.
- Projects which promote biodiversity.
- Enhancing community facilities/assets in support of projects which diversify the rural economy.
- Community activity that promotes joint service development.
- Community art projects which add to the sense of place.
- Community craft events.
