This project will support innovative developments in supply, demand and sustainability for micro businesses (nonagricultural) in the following key areas:
- Transition Food – providing micro-businesses with support for research, innovation and sharing of best practice to help meet the challenges and opportunities of climate change and post peak oil.
- Local Food Access - encouraging new markets and approaches for micro food businesses in order to increase rural access to fresh, healthy, locally produced food.
- Powys Menus - supporting innovative activities to promote local products to the food service, hospitality, conference catering and public sectors, in order to access new markets and enhance the local food offer on menus.
- Innovative Food Enterprises - developing capacity, exploring the feasibility of opportunities and supporting new micro-business models from community groups to enter the food sector in Powys.
- Innovative Food Solutions - encouraging micro businesses to seek new sustainable solutions to add value and utilise the food products and resources of Powys.
Project Applicants
- Existing and start-up micro enterprises (between 1 and 10 employees) in the food sector, including diversified farming families producing an added value product
- Women
- Young people
- The over 50s
- Welsh speaking communities
Project Budget
Total project budget £163,000 (£127,154 as cash; £35,846 recipient match funding).
Successful applicants will need to provide a proportion of the total project costs. The actual levels of match-funding contributions will be determined on an individual project basis, but will typically be of the order of circa 30%. Match funding contributions may be as cash (e.g. expenses paid for themselves) or as an in-kind contribution (e.g. volunteers’ time). However, the total project costs must be fully supported by recognised evidence (including receipts, timesheets, etc).

- Proposals submitted to and assessed by Glasu’s Local Action Group (governing board) quarterly, commencing December 08.
