The Project is a mentoring and grants Scheme designed to give help and support to micro Manufacturers in Powys in order for them to exhibit their products at UK Exhibitions. The Scheme ideally lends itself to companies that have a ‘product’ to show, not purely a ‘service’. This is a great opportunity for many industry sectors, including engineering, craft, food, fabrication and environmental. They will have the chance to show what they have to offer to a wider audience, and ultimately through this process increase turnover.

The key objectives are to increase the skills of staff within small businesses through advice and training, and provide fi nancial support enabling them to attend trade shows, and for those businesses to increase their turnover and thereby growing the Powys economy. It’s targeted for the expansion of micro businesses and provides opportunities for mentoring and networking.

Commenting on the project our Group Manager, Bill Norris said, “I am delighted we are able to provide this new service. For a small business the cost in time and resource to attend exhibitions can be daunting. By providing some expert advice on making the most of the investment in time and supporting a large part of the cost the Exhibition Grant is an excellent way of helping small manufacturing companies grow their business.”

Project Applicants

The project is targeted specifi cally at Micro and Small enterprises employing 10 or less people. With the aim of providing advice and fi nancial support for companies to exhibit and win new business at relevant trade shows and exhibitions. The project will also aim to assist Young People to give them confi dence to exhibit their products, especially for young people starting businesses and exhibiting for the fi rst time

Project Budget

The maximum award would be £5,000 per company per exhibition. The grant would be 70% of this with the benefi ciary company paying 30%. Costs are estimated at application stage, but payment would be made against actual costs to be verified ultimately by original receipts/invoices

How to apply

Companies may apply for grants directly or after a workshop. Assessment for their suitability will be based upon their quotation as a micro enterprise(10 staff or less), whether they are a manufacturers based in Powys, and the applicant wishes to show at a UK exhibition, and they can present a business case to demonstrate a potential income greater than the exhibition cost. A report would then be generated and appraised by the project steering group. Applications would be invited from all micro manufacturing companies, not just members of the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group. Project delivery staff would assist the company in completing the application form. The grant awarded is restricted to that named exhibition.

The deadline for applications will be no later than the 31st of December 2010.
